Privacy and data flow

IP Lens has no account, advertising, analytics, attribution SDK, tracking, developer-operated backend, or iCloud sync. Its privacy model depends on whether a feature needs an external data source.

Data flow by feature

Free IP lookup requests go to ipwho.is. Personal-key requests go to ipwhois.pro. Third-party services receive the submitted query and ordinary connection metadata, including the public source IP needed to return a response. Their own terms and privacy policies govern their handling of that data. IP Lens does not make a provider request behind the onboarding screens. After onboarding, automatic current-IP lookup is enabled by default and can be disabled under Settings → Look up my public IP on launch.

The iPhone connects directly to the selected provider, resolver, or registry. IP Lens requests are not routed through buffer.lol and are not part of POST /api/tools/[slug].

Data stored on the iPhone

IP Lens uses an on-device SwiftData store for:
  • Up to 100 recent unique successful IP lookup snapshots
  • IP favorites
  • Explicitly saved DNS, RDAP, and batch captures
Resolver, provider mode, appearance, and onboarding preferences use on-device settings. IP Lens does not sync this data through iCloud. Saved results are snapshots, not live records. They remain available offline until deleted, but external network and registration data can change after capture.

Personal provider keys

An optional personal ipwhois.pro key is stored in Apple Keychain after validation. It is not included in preferences, lookup snapshots, exports, or logs. Remove the key under Settings → Personal API Key when it is no longer needed. Removing the app deletes its app-container data, but Keychain items can persist across uninstall and reinstall, so remove the key in Settings first if you want it explicitly deleted.

Maps and location

IP Lens does not request GPS or Core Location permission. Map positions use approximate coordinates supplied by the IP data provider. They describe an estimated network location, not the physical position of an iPhone or person.

Exports

CSV and JSON files are prepared locally. IP Lens sends a prepared export only to the destination you choose through the iOS share sheet. Once shared, that destination’s storage and privacy rules apply.

Delete local data

  • Delete favorites or saved DNS, RDAP, and batch captures individually from their saved-result views.
  • Use Settings → Clear History and Saved Utilities to clear lookup history and saved DNS, RDAP, and batch captures. This action does not remove favorites, preferences, or the Keychain API key.
  • Remove a personal provider key separately in Settings.
  • Removing IP Lens deletes data in the app container.
